Florin Marica, widely known as MARIKA, emerged as a pivotal figure in Romania’s underground music landscape during the vibrant 1990s. As an exceptional DJ, producer, and promoter, he played an instrumental role in shaping the industry.
Co-founding Fire in Water with Cristian Paduraru, Marika’s immense talent led them to clinch prestigious accolades at the Assos New Talent Festival and the renowned Klub Bizzar show on Atomic TV.
Beyond his own musical pursuits, Marika’s ardor for electronic music found expression through radio broadcasts on Fun Radio, Activ FM, and Vibe FM. These carefully curated shows not only catered to listeners’ preferences but also highlighted Romania’s prominent electronic music contributors. Marika invited producers, promoters, and luminaries from the electronic music realm to grace his broadcasts, providing a platform for electrifying live performances and dynamic mixes.
Between 1998 and 2004, Marika was the driving force behind the acclaimed show “Metropolis” on Atomic TV, Romania’s first TV music channel. Simultaneously, he showcased his talents as a resident DJ at The Web Club, orchestrating revolutionary underground electronic music events featuring prominent bands and DJs.
In 2005, Marika’s prowess earned him a coveted spot in the finals of the esteemed Heineken national DJ contest. This accomplishment marked the beginning of numerous performances at top Romanian clubs, leaving an indelible impression wherever he played. He also established his residency at Embryo Club, solidifying his influence.
The year 2005 witnessed Marika’s successful partnership with Expirat Club and Other Side, culminating in the iconic Selectro: DJ Marika & Guests every Wednesday. These nights brought together local and international DJs, producers, and captivating live acts, delivering unforgettable experiences for all attendees.
Under the banner of Selectro, Marika crafted his unique scene, combining local talents and international luminaries, showcased at the revered Sunwaves Music Festival – SW8/SW10. The brand gained widespread recognition, earning the prestigious “Best Concept for a Series of Parties in Romania” award at the Nights.ro Awards in both 2010 and 2011.
Selectro transcended the nightlife, becoming the name of Marika’s radio show, airing on Dance FM Romania every Wednesday and Thursday.
In a significant milestone in 2017, Selectro evolved into an official record label. The label offers an eclectic array of captivating tech house releases that continue to enrapture global audiences. MARIKA’s influence remains a driving force in the world of electronic music.
