Data Transmission Podcast 971 – Mitch Oliver Tracklist

Montreal’s **Mitch Oliver** takes control of the Data Transmission Podcast this week, bringing a proper dose of house music, rolling grooves and a few melodic twists along the way.

With over 2 million Spotify streams and releases on Get Physical, Glasgow Underground, Renaissance, TrybesOf and Hoomidaas, Mitch has spent the last few years carving out his own corner of the electronic music scene. His productions have picked up support from Lee Burridge and Hernan Cattaneo, while his DJ sets have taken him from Ibiza and Amsterdam to Burning Man, Igloofest and SXM Festival.

But there’s a shift happening in Mitch’s record bag. He’s been digging further into house music, leaning towards deeper, funkier grooves without losing the melodic touch that’s become a big part of his sound. And this week’s mix gives us a good taste of where his head is at.

Opening with an unreleased Mitch Oliver ID, the mix moves through Tim Engelhardt’s ‘In Your Head’ and Kashovski’s remix of SIB’s ‘Set Me Free’, before Jewel Kid’s ‘Explicit Behaviour’ and Sean Doron’s ‘Little More (Body Action)’ bring some extra bounce to proceedings.

There’s plenty here for the house heads, too. Hipp-E’s ‘Strange Daze’ with Kevin Yost, Reset Robot’s ‘Truganini’ and Manuel Falardeau’s Deep Punch remix of ‘The More I Need’ all find their way into the selection. It’s the sort of record digging we like to hear, different corners of house coming together without trying too hard.

One of the key moments comes from Mitch himself, with ‘U Wanna’, his new single landing on his own SLAPPED label on 21st October. Featuring an original vocal from Dakota, the track brings together his melodic roots and a deeper house direction. There’s also a remix from Cristina Lazic, who takes things towards a more stripped-back Balearic feel.

Further into the mix, Serge Devant and Camila Safiya’s ‘In Your Mind’ sits alongside SDK and Simone De Kunovich’s ‘Summer Card’, a particular favourite of Mitch’s.

“It’s something extremely uplifting that really gets me going,” he says of ‘Summer Card’. “While staying minimalistic, it makes you float, and I’m absolutely in love with it.”

Beyond the studio, Mitch has been putting serious energy into SLAPPED, building the label’s presence with events in Amsterdam, an ADE takeover at Crane and plans for New York in November.

For this week’s podcast, though, it’s all about the selection. Fourteen tracks, a healthy spread of house music and a DJ clearly enjoying the direction his sound is taking.
