Ceephax Acid Crew [live] – Bassiani Podcast 333 Tracklist
Acid house gets solid representation here from one of the genre’s trailblazing talents. Chelmsford local Andy Jenkinson’s a true innovator: in the three odd decades since he got going, electronic music has gone through several revolutions and style changes, and through it all he’s stuck it out with his pioneering, one of a kind sound. As Ceephax Acid Crew he’s amassed a dizzying collection of hardware (Roland’s TB-303, TR-909, TR-707 and SH-101, a Yamaha Rs7000, and the occasional Yamaha DX among others), an analog mess from which his squelchy, rebellious frequencies emerge, aleatoric and often improvised on the spot. Since his early releases on Rephlex through to the present, there’s a playfulness that runs through what he does. And yet it’s serious business, invariable proof that the new doesn’t necessarily mean the latest and slickest machinery; there’s a soul in his aging hardware that he’s kept alive through acid, to breaks, to drum ’n’ bass experiments, jungle, chiptune and more. On his own outlet Waltzer he looks to the past, remastering and rereleasing his own back catalogue for a new generation too. And for Bassiani Podcast 333, Ceephax unspools his emblematic chaos for new ears, a live set recorded at Bassiani in September. Back to basics fare from the veteran captain of acid.
