Josey Rebelle – Bassiani Podcast 332 Tracklist
A native Brit with Caribbean roots, Josey Rebelle’s been a London torch-bearer for many years, pulling from influences like hardcore, jungle, house and Detroit techno and building a reputation as canny DJ in the process. Learning to mix her older brother’s collection of records, she eventually ended up playing nights at some of the city’s most established venues, holding a residency at now-shuttered Plastic People, and crucially, a decade-long stint at Rinse FM. No PR, no social media, no management, stripped of all the marketing is a profound authenticity to her work and sets that speak for themselves, bringing the music she loves to club floors and festivals across the map (the likes of Open Ground, FOLD, RSO, Tresor, Terraforma, Dimensions and Aurora Halal’s Sustain-Release). And through it all is a formidable self-awareness, joy and knack for choosing the right tune at the right time: these fleeting beats are cathartic, physical and heavily addictive. For Bassiani Podcast 332, Josey unleashes an hour of high-grade dance fare punctuated by a slowed down, introspective and dubby coda; a chugging, wobbling, sample-heavy studio mix from a tried and true selector.
